We understand that starting nursery can be a big change for families and we want to ensure that you and your child feel comfortable before you start with us.
We expect you to have plenty of questions and we will answer these whilst getting to know about you and your child.
We have tried to answer a lot of the most commonly asked questions on this page as a starting point. You can jump to any section by using the buttons below.

Before your start date we will invite you in for some settling in sessions. These sessions will take place in your child’s room and you will be able to stay and meet your Keyperson whilst providing reassurance for your child as they get to know their new surroundings.
The session will also allow you to share with us your child’s routine, their interests, their development and any other important care aspects which we need to be aware of e.g. medical requirements.
During the session we will also explain any paperwork we require you to complete and show you where you can find digital versions of each form. Paper copies are available if required.
Your child’s development will be tracked within a digital learning journey which you can access and contribute to via the Parentzone App.
We will set up your account and email you your log in details once set up. You can access Parentzone on a computer or mobile.
A guide to Parentzone can be downloaded below.
The following forms are only required once you have had a place offered at one of our nurseries and have accepted it. If you wish to register your child you can do so here.
The nursery will explain the forms required and answer any questions you may have before you start at nursery.
If you require a printed version please ask us.
The registration pack is a more comprehensive version of our registration form. We will explain each section and ask you to sign to say you agree to our policies. This form is only required once we have confirmed your place. Please use our registration form to register your interest initially.
The All About Me form covers all of the key information about your child such as their health, routine and development.
This form is only required if your child has an ongoing medical condition which may require medication and/or treatment.
This form is only required if your child is using formula or breast milk so that we know the quantity and times of feeds throughout the day.
This form is only required if you wish to supply a nappy cream which the nursery do not already supply.
This form is only required if your child has any dietary requirements such as vegetarian, vegan, no dairy, gluten free etc.
Your first day will likely lead to mixed emotions as your child starts nursery for the first time. We hope that the settling in sessions will have given you reassurance on what your child will be doing alongside an opportunity to meet our colleagues in your room. Below we have put a few of the things you will need to pack in your child’s bag ready for nursery.
What to bring
We will supply you with a red Childbase bag during your settling in sessions and your child will have a named peg by their room.
Please can you bring in the following items for your child:
What we supply
During your settling in sessions we will have discussed all of the key information on your child’s routines. For your reference we supply the following items for your child:
Messy activities
At nursery your child will engage in a variety of ‘messy’ and art based play. Whilst aprons are worn, and paints are washable there are occassions that clothes may stain after play. We recommend that you dress your child in clothes which you do not mind if they get stained. We will of course do our best to try to avoid this.
Outdoor play
Children access the garden all year round and we understand the importance that outdoor play has on a child’s learning and development.
We ask parents to provide a suitable coat, hat/gloves and sunhat as required. We supply suncream for all children within the warmer months.
Pushchairs/car seats
If you walk to nursery with your child, or need to leave a car seat, our nurseries have a location where these can be stored during the day. Please ask at nursery for the location and access to yours.
Entry to nursery
Please buzz the door and wait for a member of our team to let you in. Please be patient at busier times of the day as our colleagues may be talking to other parents/carers.
Contacting us
Our teams are available throughout the day to talk to you and let you know how your little one is getting on. Please feel free to call or email us at any time.
We prioritise the importance of outdoor play at Cedars Day Nursery in Leighton Buzzard. All children at our Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ nursery have access to our large, natural garden area on a daily basis as we recognise the impact that being outdoors has on a child’s social, emotional and physical development. The children enjoy planting vegetables and tasting their produce, served by our dedicated Nursery Chef.
