Cedars children make special delivery

Following their recent interest in post, children from Cedars Day Nursery in Leighton Buzzard were delighted to write and send a letter to one of their favourite authors.

Having enjoyed exploring the topic over the past few weeks, children from the Mentmore Road setting were inspired to pen a letter to Julia Donaldson, sharing how much they enjoyed her latest book, ‘Gruffalo Granny’, and enclosing their own artwork from the story.

To bring their learning to life, the children took part in every stage of the process. They discussed what they wanted to write, helped create the letter, carefully prepared their drawings to send, and then enjoyed a special trip to the local post box to drop their letter.

The experience helped children develop their communication and literacy skills while gaining a real-life understanding of how letters are written, addressed, sent and delivered.

Cedars Day Nursery Manager, Lauren Trotter explained;

“One of the best ways to create meaningful and memorable learning experiences is using children’s interests. Their enthusiasm led to some wonderful discussions and real-world learning opportunities. Being able to write to an author whose stories they love made this even more special, and we’re all very excited to see whether Julia Donaldson writes back.”
