Festivities were in full swing at Julia Durbin Day Nursery in Headington as children and colleagues celebrated the 100th birthday of Sir David Attenborough.
At the setting on Roosevelt Drive, children marked the special occasion with a series of inspired activities, including viewing short clips from his documentaries including ‘Planet Earth’, co-researching ways to help local wildlife and making collages of their favourite animals using an array of recycled materials.
Sir David Attenborough has inspired children and colleagues alike at the nursery, who are proud holders of the prestigious Green Flag with Distinction from Eco-Schools, the highest accolade in the international scheme which is given for exceptional environmental awareness and conservation practices, including creating habitats and growing vegetables.
Julia Durbin Quality Manager, Charley Alcock explained;
“Sir David Attenborough has inspired generations to care for the world around them, and it was wonderful to see our children so engaged and excited while celebrating his 100th birthday. Here the children were able to learn more about protecting our planet in a fun and meaningful way. As a nursery, we are passionate about encouraging environmental awareness from an early age, so this was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate someone who has dedicated his life to inspiring that same message.”
David Attenborough turned 100 on 8th May 2026.
