Nursery on the Green take care of the planet

NOG spring clean 2026

There were exciting learning opportunities at every turn for children at Nursery on the Green in Southall as they celebrated Earth Day with a series of themed activities.

At the setting on Thorncliffe Road, pre-schoolers immersed themselves in all the occasion had to offer, including collecting rubbish from a sea-life water tray while discussing the impact of pollution on marine life. They also created their own visual representations of the Earth using a variety of materials and co-researched ways to help protect the planet.

These activities followed an initiative that saw families and colleagues join forces for the Great British Spring Clean. Together, they took to their local area, clearing nearby streets and verges of litter before sorting the waste appropriately into refuse and recycling.

It is for such initiatives that Nursery on the Green have earnt a prestigious ‘Green Flag’ award from Eco-Schools for exceptional environmental awareness and conservation practices, which involves children of all ages and includes creating bug hotels for insect observations and growing vegetables in the garden which are then used in meals.

Nursery on the Green Manager, Meera Ladva explained;

“Earth Day is a wonderful opportunity for our children to explore how they can make a positive difference to the world around them. Through hands-on activities and meaningful discussions, we encourage even our youngest learners to develop an understanding of sustainability and the importance of caring for our environment.”

“We are incredibly proud of how our children, families and team come together to support initiatives like the Great British Spring Clean. Achieving the Green Flag award reflects our ongoing commitment to embedding environmental awareness into everyday learning and inspiring lifelong habits that help protect our planet.”

Earth Day is celebrated globally on 22nd April to promote conservation of the natural world and raise awareness of the dangers of pollution, climate change and threats to wildlife.
