Earth Day celebrations at Seabrook

Seabrook Earth Day

There were exciting learning opportunities at every turn for children at Seabrook Day Nursery in Luton as they celebrated Earth Day with a series of themed activities.

At the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery on Lewsey Road, pre-schoolers immersed themselves in all the occasion had to offer, including co-researching how they could save animals from extinction and showcasing their creativity by making ‘save the planet’ posters.

Having adopted their very own sea turtle at the start of the year, children discussed the impact of plastic pollution on oceans and marine life, and explored simple ways they could help by reducing waste, recycling more and caring for the world around them.

It is for such initiatives that Seabrook have earnt a prestigious ‘Green Flag’ award from Eco-Schools for exceptional environmental awareness and conservation practices, which involves children of all ages and includes creating bug hotels for insect observations and growing vegetables in the garden which are then used in meals by talented Nursery Chefs.

Seabrook Day Nursery Team Leader, Tegan Kightley explained;

“We were delighted to see the children so engaged and enthusiastic during Earth Day. It’s important to us that they not only have fun, but also begin to understand how they can make a positive difference to the world around them. We’re very proud of their efforts and of the meaningful conversations they’re already starting to have about protecting our planet.”

Earth Day is celebrated globally on 22nd April to promote conservation of the natural world and raise awareness of the dangers of pollution, climate change and threats to wildlife.
