Woodlands Day Nursery children visit local fire station
Following an interest in the emergency services, pre-schoolers from Woodlands Day Nursery in Barnet were delighted to visit local heroes at their nearby fire station.
After putting on their high-vis vests, children from the award-winning setting on Orchard Road caught the bus to Barnet Fire Station, where they enjoyed a talk on fire safety by the experts, before having the opportunity to try on the protective clothing worn to stay safe.
As part of the exciting learning experience, captivated pre-schoolers were given a tour of the fire engine and all its specialist equipment, as well as having the chance to use the water hose to knock down training obstacles with the help and guidance of the firefighters.
Back at nursery, children took part in a range of activities to further learning, including sharing their new-found knowledge and creating fire engines using recycled materials.
Woodlands Day Nursery Manager, Melina Koulakis explained;
“We love to follow the children’s interests in nursery and our trip to the fire station provided so many fantastic learning opportunities for the group. We are so grateful to the firefighters for giving up their time to make this visit so memorable for our pre-schoolers, who now have a much greater understanding of the important work they do within our community.”
