Despite being labelled as the ‘the gloomiest day of the year’, there were smiles all round at Windmill Hill Day Nursery in Swindon as children and colleagues took part in a series of inspired wellbeing activities at the setting to mark ‘Blue Monday’.
Dressed in their cosiest pyjamas, groups from the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery on Windmill Hill Business Park enjoyed homemade blueberry pancakes and warming hot chocolates, courtesy of talented Nursery Chef, Paul May, before exploring their favourite storybooks and taking part in crafting sessions as the perfect antidote to the Monday blues.
As part of the festivities, devoted staff teams were delighted to receive handwritten cards of appreciation from their grateful Manager, Kayleigh Blaylock, thanking them each individually for their hard work and continued dedication to the children and families in their care.
The latest celebration in nursery follows a new company wellbeing initiative launched in January, giving each colleague the potential to earn up to 20 extra days of paid leave throughout 2024, based on attendance, to help improve and enhance work-life balance.
Windmill Hill Nursery Manager, Kayleigh Blaylock explained;
“Despite being known as Blue Monday, our wonderful children and colleagues always bring so much fun and energy to the nursery, which always results in a good day. We had a brilliant day spreading cheer and letting our incredible staff team know how special they are.”
‘Blue Monday’ is marked on the third Monday of January every year.
We prioritise the importance of outdoor play at Cedars Day Nursery in Leighton Buzzard. All children at our Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ nursery have access to our large, natural garden area on a daily basis as we recognise the impact that being outdoors has on a child’s social, emotional and physical development. The children enjoy planting vegetables and tasting their produce, served by our dedicated Nursery Chef.
