‘The Colour Monster’, ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ and ‘Alice in Wonderland’ were just some of the beloved books that children and colleagues at Westwood Day Nursery in Coventry took inspiration from as they dressed up to celebrate World Book Day.
At the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery on Westwood Business Park, pre-schoolers were delighted to share their favourite stories with friends and impersonate beloved literary characters, as well as enjoy a special storytelling session to commemorate the annual event, which looks to celebrate books and encourage a lasting love of reading amongst children.
As part of the festivities, each age-appropriate room focused on a particular story and delivered inspired activities, from ‘Handa’s Surprise’ which saw the children enjoy fruit tasting and talk about healthy eating, to exploring emotions through ‘The Colour Monster’.
Westwood Day Nursery Deputy Manager, Lyndsey Matthews explained;
“We have had lots of fun exploring some of our favourite books across the nursery and admiring the incredible efforts that went into the costumes. Storytelling is not only brilliant for capturing the imagination, but essential for aiding language development, building literary confidence and helping us to understand emotions.”
World Book Day was created by UNESCO on 23rd April 1995.
