West Cambridge Day Nursery children celebrate Lunar New Year
Festivities were well underway at West Cambridge Day Nursery as children and practitioners welcomed the ‘Year of the Rabbit’ with a series of exciting celebrations and a guest visitor.
At the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ setting on Charles Babbage Road, pre-schoolers were delighted to welcome a nursery parent, who read one of the children’s beloved Peppa Pig storybooks in Mandarin, before taking any questions about Lunar New Year from the group.
After co-researching traditional customs of the festival, children enjoyed a food tasting session complete with traditional dishes including Ma Po tofu and Yu Xiang with aubergine, vegetable spring rolls and pancakes, before engaging in chopstick noodle play by way of practice, whilst developing their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
Children were also immersed in crafting opportunities as they showcased their creativity by making rabbit masks and Chinese inspired lanterns using an array of recyclable materials.
West Cambridge Day Nursery Team Leader, Alistair Montgomery explained;
“Lunar New Year has provided so many brilliant opportunities for the children and we are hugely grateful to our nursery families who help us deliver these rich learning experiences. We mark a broad range of cultural events throughout the year to give the children a greater understanding of the world and celebrate the diversity within our community.”
We prioritise the importance of outdoor play at Cedars Day Nursery in Leighton Buzzard. All children at our Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ nursery have access to our large, natural garden area on a daily basis as we recognise the impact that being outdoors has on a child’s social, emotional and physical development. The children enjoy planting vegetables and tasting their produce, served by our dedicated Nursery Chef.
