There were smiles all round at Windmill Hill Day Nursery in Swindon as children welcomed a group of adorable chicks to the setting, having watched them hatch from their eggs.
At the award-winning setting on Windmill Hill Business Park, Whitehill Way, pre-schoolers were delighted to observe the process of life cycles first-hand, as well as learn how to care for the animals in their crucial early stages of growth and development.
During the unique 10-day experience, the chicks were incorporated into various areas of learning to build on environmental knowledge, as well as promoting caring and nurturing skills and personal responsibility by carrying out duties such as replenishing food and water.
Windmill Hill Day Nursery Quality Manager, Gemma Gill explained;
“The arrival of the chicks has been an extremely rich learning experience which has given the children a much greater understanding of life cycles and basic scientific messages. They have brought so much joy to the nursery and they will be hugely missed by the children, colleagues and parents, who have loved dropping in to see them too.”
