Snow much fun at Willows Day Nursery

Christmas came early for delighted children at Willows Day Nursery in Aylesbury as they experienced their first snowy week at the setting’s Forest School.

At the award-winning day nursery on Mandeville Road, pre-schoolers embraced the colder weather as they took to the woodland area outside for a series of exciting learning opportunities, including following animal tracks left behind in the snow and discussing the shapes of the footprints to determine which creatures they could be from.

As part of the activities, children also created their very own snowman, as well as snowballs which they used as part of an experiment to see what noises they would make when thrown against different objects, including a shelter the group had made using sticks and twigs. The children also spoke about the clothing they needed to wear in the cold weather to stay warm.

The Forest School at Willows offers a range of range of unique experiences which are delivered by Qualified Forest School Leaders all year round to help develop confidence, risk-taking and problem-solving skills in a safe space, with activities including den making, campfire building, mini adventures and large-scale, imaginative play.

Willows Day Nursery Manager, Jane Hobbs explained;

“The children love experiencing all the elements of the changing seasons in our Forest School and had a wonderful time immersing themselves in the snow-based activities on offer. All our children have daily access to our fantastic forest facility as we recognise the value this adds, as well as encouraging a lasting love of the natural world around them.”
