Following campaigns across the borough of Enfield regarding oral hygiene in children, pre-schoolers from Woodberry Day Nursery in Winchmore Hill were delighted to welcome an NHS healthcare professional for a special dental masterclass at the setting.
With the help of Mr Sparkle the Crocodile, children from the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery on Church Hill used a torch to inspect the condition of his teeth, before having the opportunity to brush them with minty toothpaste and a giant toothbrush by way of practice.
As part of the learning experience, the group discussed the importance of brushing teeth for two minutes twice a day to prevent decay, as well as exploring healthy and unhealthy foods.
Latest Public Health England statistics show that nearly a quarter of five-year-olds in England have tooth decay, which is a serious but largely preventable problem, leading the subject of oral health to be added to the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum.
Woodberry Day Nursery Manager, Rosie O’Sullivan explained;
“We have had a brilliant time delving into this subject and the children were eager to share everything they’d learnt from Mr Sparkle with their families at home. We are committed to giving our pre-schoolers the best possible start in life, and this includes providing them with knowledge to make healthy and informed choices for the future.”
We prioritise the importance of outdoor play at Cedars Day Nursery in Leighton Buzzard. All children at our Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ nursery have access to our large, natural garden area on a daily basis as we recognise the impact that being outdoors has on a child’s social, emotional and physical development. The children enjoy planting vegetables and tasting their produce, served by our dedicated Nursery Chef.
