There were learning opportunities at every turn for children at River View Day Nursery in Hertford as they took part in a series of activities to celebrate British Science Week.
From creating static electricity with balloons, to making shaving foam rain clouds complete with colourful raindrops, pre-schoolers from the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery on North Road were delighted to be immersed in exciting experiments to encourage critical thinking, whilst incorporating basic maths and science messages into learning.
As part of the festivities, children explored colour mixing with a walking water experiment, observing as coloured water travelled up paper towels and changed shade with the help of food dye, as well as a fizzing rocks activity, watching as they reacted with lemon juice.
Children at River View regularly take part in ‘STEM’ activities as part of an initiative which looks to integrate ‘Science’, ‘Technology’, ‘Engineering’ and ‘Maths’ into everyday learning in order to introduce the subjects and nurture interest from an early age.
River View Day Nursery Team Leader, Susan Moses explained;
“The children had a fantastic time taking part in activities for British Science Week and using these exciting experiments to answer their burning questions. These activities are brilliant for helping to develop key life skills such as problem solving, communication and forming opinions based on observations, all whilst supporting expressive arts and design skills. We definitely have some budding young scientists in the making.”
We prioritise the importance of outdoor play at Cedars Day Nursery in Leighton Buzzard. All children at our Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ nursery have access to our large, natural garden area on a daily basis as we recognise the impact that being outdoors has on a child’s social, emotional and physical development. The children enjoy planting vegetables and tasting their produce, served by our dedicated Nursery Chef.
