Pennypot celebrate World Book Day

Celebrations were well underway at Pennypot Day Nursery in Chobham as children and colleagues dressed up in pyjamas and shared their favourite bedtime stories to mark World Book Day, as well as taking part in exciting themed activities.

As part of the festivities, children were delighted to welcome parents and grandparents to the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery on Pennypot Lane, who kindly volunteered to deliver storytelling sessions to the captivated group, complete with props and books from home.

At the setting, children enjoyed a series of themed activities, including delving into story sacks and creating their very own bookmarks to commemorate the annual event, which looks to celebrate the magic of books and promote a lasting love of reading.

Practitioners also designed a special ‘Book Bingo’ game sheet for youngsters to enjoy at home with their families throughout March, encouraging reading and storytelling as parents and children worked together to tick off the list, with themes ranging from poems to stories featuring animals, with children receiving a certificate of achievement upon completion.

Pennypot Day Nursery Team Leader, Aprille Goubert explained;

“We had an amazing time celebrating World Book Day across the nursery. We are so grateful to our nursery families who gave up their time to create exciting learning experiences for our children, and for being so engaged with our Book Bingo initiative. Our little ones have loved getting involved in this challenge and we hope this will foster a love of books that they will carry with them into adulthood. One of our pre-schoolers has already finished, completing an incredible 16 books in just over a week!”

World Book Day is marked on 7th March 2024 and was created by UNESCO in 1995.
