Children from Rowan Tree Day Nursery in Welwyn Garden City have been celebrating the Queen’s extraordinary life and service with a series of tributes and activities at the setting.
Following encouragement from the town council for residents to lay flowers, which will then be composted and used to help grown an oak tree in Her Majesty’s honour, pre-schoolers from the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery on Guessens Road were delighted to choose flowers from the local florist, which they then laid at the special memorial area.
As part of the celebrations of life, children also showcased their creativity by making cards and pictures, as well as learning more about the Queen’s 70-year reign and the new King.
Rowan Tree Day Nursery Manager, Claire Ovenden explained;
“We were all deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Her Majesty the Queen, especially after the wonderful Jubilee celebrations we enjoyed over the summer at nursery. We are sensitively handling the children’s questions and are now focusing on celebrating her amazing life through painting, crafting and discussion.”
