Outdoor exploration for Oak Tree Day Nursery children

From showcasing their creativity with water painting and ice play in the sunshine, to enjoying engaging story sessions in their cosy outdoor den, babies from Oak Tree Day Nursery in Finchampstead have been making the most of their garden space in all weathers.

At the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery on Nine Mile Ride, children have been immersing themselves in environmental themed activities as part of the setting’s ‘art with nature’ programme, which focuses on creating masterpieces with the beauty around them. Most recently, this has included planting herbs to create a sensory walk trail in the garden.

At Oak Tree, children of all ages take part in sustainable activities all year round, from babies using recycled paper from the shredder for sensory activities, to older children creating bug hotels for insect observations and growing vegetables in the garden which are then used in meals by talented Nursery Chefs, earning them a prestigious Green Flag award.

Meanwhile, inspired by ‘International Mud Day’, children were delighted to take to their bespoke mud kitchen where they mixed and poured, practicing their fine motor skills as they created mud pies with sand and water and delved into the exciting sensory play on offer.

Oak Tree Day Nursery Deputy Manager, Becca Rowland explained;

“The children in our Caterpillars room have been having a wonderful time exploring their outdoor environment, with so many opportunities for fun and learning. Time spent in nature offers a host of benefits, including aiding concentration and improving language skills, and we look forward to introducing more of these learning opportunities as they grow.”
