Following an interest in ‘people that help us’, children from Nursery on the Green in Redbourn were delighted to visit local heroes at their nearby fire station.
After putting on their coats and high-vis vests, pre-schoolers from the award-winning setting on South Common took a walk through the village to Redbourn Fire Station, where they enjoyed a talk on fire safety, before having the opportunity to try on the protective clothing and having races timed by the Chief to see who could put on the special gear the fastest.
As part of the exciting opportunity, captivated children were given a tour of the fire engine and all its equipment, as well as having the chance to use the water hose to knock down fire training templates with the help and guidance of the expert firefighters.
Back at nursery, children took part in a range of activities to further learning, including showcasing their creativity by making their very own fire engines using an array of recycled materials and reflecting on their new-found knowledge of the topic.
Nursery on the Green Manager, Carli Toal explained;
“We love to follow the children’s interests in nursery and our trip to the fire station provided so many fantastic learning experiences for the group. We are so grateful to the firefighters for giving up their time to make this visit so memorable for our pre-schoolers, who now have a much greater understanding of the important work they do within our community.”
We prioritise the importance of outdoor play at Cedars Day Nursery in Leighton Buzzard. All children at our Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ nursery have access to our large, natural garden area on a daily basis as we recognise the impact that being outdoors has on a child’s social, emotional and physical development. The children enjoy planting vegetables and tasting their produce, served by our dedicated Nursery Chef.
