Winchmore Hill preschoolers celebrate World Book Day

Animals, pirates and princesses took over Woodberry Day Nursery in Winchmore Hill last week as costumed staff and children staged a fun-filled celebration of World Book Day.

Each of the age-appropriate rooms at the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ day nursery in Church Hill, adopted a theme for their celebrations and activities, with the preschool room opting for characters from their favourite book The Gruffalo.

As Woodberry Deputy Manager Emma Trodd, explained the annual event is a favourite with both children and staff as everybody dresses up and gets creative.

“Story-telling is an important part of all activity at Woodberry and goes way beyond encouraging a love of reading and books. It is a vital tool in enhancing self-esteem and confidence in young children while nurturing imagination and creativity. It is also a lot of fun,” she said.

She thanked parents for supporting the celebration day as children arrived in nursery in a variety of imaginative costumes including zoo animals, pets, tigers, pirates and princesses.
