Winchester pre-school producers stage harvest market
Pre-schoolers at Maples Day Nursery in Winchester staged their annual Harvest Market showcasing their talents as growers as well as bakers and raising £87 for charity.
Parents of children at the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ day nursery in Hatherley Road eagerly snapped up home-made jam, popcorn and soup all made by the children using some produce from the growing beds in the garden.
“It is one of the highlights in our calendar as our children love making and presenting their goods for sale, and it is a wonderfully rewarding experience for staff who are inundated with questions from excited children,” said Chelsea Basley, Maples Deputy Manager.
Making popcorn from scratch was top of the popularity charts, with children also gathering freshly laid eggs from three hens in the nursery coup, and baking biscuits and bread.
The proceeds go to the Alzheimer’s Society which Maples Day Nursery has adopted for a year-long fund-raising drive.
