There was time for reflection at Westwood Day Nursery in Coventry as colleagues marked World Mental Health Day with a series of activities and a special dress-up day.
Wearing yellow to symbolise positivity, hope and support for mental wellbeing, the team at the Westwood Way setting spent the day focusing on the importance of self-care, emotional wellbeing and looking after one another, while also receiving thoughtful wellbeing gift bags from their managers in recognition of the invaluable work they do every day.
For the children, the day was filled with meaningful learning experiences designed to help them understand and express their emotions. Mindfulness activities, stories centred around kindness, and creative art projects encouraged the children to talk about how they feel and explore the importance of empathy and emotional awareness from an early age.
Alongside the children’s activities, colleagues took the opportunity to reflect on their own wellbeing, sharing ideas on how to support one another and foster a positive and caring working environment. The day reflects Childbase Partnership’s ongoing commitment to promoting positive mental health and emotional wellbeing for both children and colleagues.
The nursery has a strong history of supporting mental health beyond its own walls. Last year, Westwood Day Nursery helped raise funds for children’s mental health charity YoungMinds, contributing to the £159,935.18 raised collectively by Childbase Partnership’s 44 nurseries over the course of a year. The fundraising effort helped support the charity’s work providing advice, information and support to young people struggling with their mental health.
Westwood Day Nursery Manager, Lyndsey Matthews, said:
“World Mental Health Day provided a valuable opportunity to pause and reflect on the importance of wellbeing for both our children and our team. Supporting emotional development is a key part of what we do every day, and we know that helping children understand their feelings from a young age can have a lasting positive impact. It was wonderful to see everyone embracing the day, taking part in activities and having conversations that reinforced the importance of support and self-care.”
World Mental Health Day was marked on 10th October 2026.
