National Storytelling Week at Devonshire

Festivities were well underway at Devonshire Day Nursery in Chiswick as children and colleagues marked National Storytelling Week with a series of activities.

At the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ setting on Bennett Street, pre-schoolers were delighted to share their favourite books, as well as exploring story sacks, character puppets, themed tuff trays and role play games to bring tales to life and spark further learning opportunities.

As part of the celebrations, children explored the beloved story ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’, through a range of hands-on experiences. The group proudly showcased their creativity by crafting their own caterpillars using recycled materials, while also discussing the caterpillar’s food choices. The fun continued with a bug hotel sensory activity, themed coloured playdough and a fun matching game, all designed to support early development.

Devonshire Day Nursery Manager, Emmy Avery explained;

“Celebrating National Storytelling Week gives our children the chance to dive into the magic of stories and bring them to life. From creating their own caterpillars to exploring sensory activities, every task sparks curiosity, creativity and learning. It’s wonderful to see the children so excited to share ideas, ask questions and discover the joy of reading together.”

National Storytelling Week runs from 31st January to 8th February 2026.
