Sharing stories at Grasshoppers Day Nursery

Children from Grasshoppers Day Nursery in St Albans were delighted to visit the local residents of Strathmore Care Home, where they shared their beloved books as part of ‘World Book Day’ festivities.

Pre-schoolers from the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery in York Road took their beloved stories such as ‘The Gruffalo’ to Strathmore Lodge, which is also in St Albans, to explore and read with the residents to mark the annual celebration.

Grasshoppers Day Nursery Team Leader, Jodie Smart said;

“The children love our trips to Strathmore Care Home, and it’s wonderful to see the way storytelling can bring two generations together and help them to bond. Studies have also shown that the presence of children in care homes can improve the physical, social and mental wellbeing of the elderly, whilst the children love forming new friendships with the residents and learning all about their lives.”
