Santa Claus praises Greengables preschool ‘elves’
Santa Claus was the special guest at Greengables Day Nursery in Sandhurst this week where he praised preschoolers, parents and staff for their gift-giving and goodwill to a charity.
Visiting each of the parties at the day nursery in Yeovil Road, Owlsmoor, to distribute over 140 gifts – one for each child – Santa Claus admired decorations and cards made by the children who also gave a performance of their favourite Christmas songs.
There was also praise for staff who provided a Christmas Hamper which was raffled to raise £130 for the charity, Children Today, which funds equipment for children with disabilities.
As Greengables Manager, Jen Ralphs, explained ‘goodwill’ is a year-long commitment at the nursery but the annual parties in each age appropriate room for children and their families are about saying ‘thank you’.
“We have happy confident children, wonderfully supportive parents and a dedicated staff team. This time of the year is particularly magical for us all so we celebrate how lucky we are and remember those less fortunate,” she said.
Children Today, has been adopted by the nursery for a year-long fund-raising drive because:
“At the moment our healthy happy children are eagerly anticipating gifts of toys at Christmas while other children, who face up to a range of challenges every day, are hoping for essential presents like ventilation machines for Cystic Fibrosis sufferers, or wheelchairs and mobility aids which are not provided by the Government or NHS,” said Jen.
Children and staff had pulled out all the stops to make Santa Claus feel welcome with decorated trees in every room and card and crafting ‘workshops’ in full swing. Nursery Chef, Craig Gallagher, prepared all the children’s ‘food favourites’ for the parties.
