A roaring success at Sandfield Day Nursery
Having been captivated by the feed of live stream animal videos that Chester Zoo have been sharing throughout lockdown, children and practitioners from Sandfield Day Nursery in Headington were saddened to hear that the park was struggling.
In order to raise vital funds for the family attraction, which is home to over 35,000 animals from across the world, children from the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery on Sandfield Road picked up a paintbrush and showcased their creativity by designing masterpieces based upon their favourite zoo animals. This ran alongside a collection, where generous nursery colleagues donated to the worthy cause.
Sandfield Day Nursery Business Administrator, Becci Worth explained;
“The children have absolutely loved watching Chester Zoo’s daily videos and they have been a wonderful tool for learning about habitats, lifecycles and more. We were so upset to hear the news that they may have to permanently close their gates following the impact of coronavirus, and really wanted to do our bit to ensure this didn’t happen. We are delighted to have raised a total of £160 for the cause, which we have donated to them, along with the children’s beautiful artwork.”
In a statement on their website, Chester Zoo wrote;
“There’s no denying that we have suffered severe financial damage over the past three months and the road to recovery will be long and uncertain. But, your incredibly kind donations, animal adoptions and memberships have given us a vital lifeline. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.”
