Preschoolers stage their own Royal Wedding ceremony in Leighton Buzzard
A royal wedding featuring a princely groom, fabulous dress and a cake was the highlight of week-long celebrations by preschoolers at Cedars Day Nursery in Leighton Buzzard.
Flags and bunting decorated the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ day nursery in Mentmore Road, as the 4-year-old bride ‘married’ her prince in a dress worn by preschool practitioner, Tina Wilmer, at her own wedding last year.
Heavily pregnant with her first child, Tina said:
“People were surprised that I brought it into nursery, but I am never going to wear it again and it was very special for me to see the children wearing it and enjoying it,” she said.
Cedars Manager Michelle Nokes said the dress had been the inspiration for crafting activities and research into the royal family at the interactive Smart Board in the preschool room.
“When you capture a child’s imagination the opportunities for learning are endless. The children have been so excited throughout the whole process it has been a magical time for staff,” she said.
Crafting included making crowns, flags and bunting and the pre-schoolers even made their own sandwiches for the Royal Wedding tea.
