Festivities were well underway at Meadow View Day Nursery in Newport Pagnell as children and colleagues celebrated the 100th birthday of Sir David Attenborough.
Dressed in animal prints, children and colleagues from the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery on Westbury Lane marked the occasion with a series of inspired activities, including reading the ‘Little People, Big Dreams’ story about Sir David’s extraordinary life and co-researching ways they could help their own garden wildlife through the changing seasons.
As part of the occasion, youngsters were delighted to showcase their creativity by making birthday cards and decorations in honour of the broadcaster and biologist, as well as exploring marine life trays and taking part in jungle focused imaginative play.
Sir David Attenborough has inspired children and colleagues alike at the nursery, who are proud holders of the prestigious Green Flag with Distinction from Eco-Schools, the highest accolade in the international scheme which is given for exceptional environmental awareness and conservation practices, including creating habitats and growing vegetables.
Meadow View Deputy Manager, Jennifer Baucutt explained;
“Sir David Attenborough has inspired generations to care for the world around them, and it was wonderful to see our children so engaged in learning about the environment while celebrating his remarkable birthday. We hope to encourage the children to develop a lifelong respect for nature and understand how even small actions can make a difference.”
Sir David Attenborough turned 100 years old on 8th May 2026.
