Maples Day Nursery bikeathon raises over £800 for charity
Dedicated colleagues from Maples Day Nursery in Winchester were delighted to raise over £800 for charity, following an 11 hour non-stop bikeathon at the setting.
At the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery on Hatherley Road, the devoted team took it in turns to each cycle for 15 minutes between 7.30 in the morning and 6.30 in the evening, whilst proud children dressed in sportswear and rode bikes and scooters around the garden by way of support. As a result of their efforts, Maples colleagues were thrilled to raised £850 for Cancer Research UK, with donations still incoming.
The initiative is the latest in a series of fundraising events for the nursery, who have also enjoyed dress up days, sponsored step challenges, virtual balloon races and more in their efforts to raise money for CRUK, who in December announced they had been forced to cut research funding by £45 million due to losses from the pandemic.
Maples Day Nursery Manager, Sian Murphy explained;
“Raising money for charity has always been very important to us as a team, and I am hugely proud of everyone for the effort they put in to helping others. Our nursery families are also brilliant at getting behind the worthy causes we support, despite this past year being tough for everyone. We are now looking forward to planning more events involving the children in the coming summer months.”
Maples Day Nursery adopted Cancer Research UK in 2020 for a year-long fundraising drive, which has now been extended until the end of 2021.
