Layers of Learning in Twyford
Children at the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Cedar Park Day Nursery in Twyford have been growing and nurturing their own onions.
Growing vegetables gives children plenty of opportunities for learning as Rachael Main, Third in Charge, explains:
“The children have been fascinated watching the onion grow over the last month. Measuring and weighing the onion has supported mathematical skills and looking at how vegetables develop in their natural environments supports each child’s knowledge and understanding of the world.”
This activity is one of many which supports the nurseries Eco Schools project and will further enhance the children’s knowledge of where their food comes from.
