Julia Durbin Deputy Manager takes on Shine Night Walk for charity
There was cause for celebration at Julia Durbin Day Nursery in Headington as proud children and colleagues praised the achievements of Deputy Manager, Aimee Corcoran, as she took on the ‘Shine Night Walk’ Half Marathon in aid of charity.
Starting in London’s Southwark Park and continuing throughout the city after hours, Aimee was delighted to complete the gruelling 13.1 mile course, raising a grand total of £510.00 for Cancer Research UK, with donations still incoming from generous supporters at the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery on Roosevelt Drive.
Following the death of her grandmother, Carol Lyons, from secondary breast cancer in 1995 aged only 50 years old, Cancer Research UK has always held a close place in Aimee’s heart and was the inspiration for her taking part in the fundraiser.
Julia Durbin Day Nursery Manager, Aimee Corcoran explained;
“Cancer Research UK is very important to me and seeing everyone come together for such a worthy cause was very special. I completed the challenge with a number of fellow Childbase colleagues from across the company which was brilliant, but it was Lora Worthington from Windmill Hill Day Nursery who was my saviour. The last three miles were tough, but together we crossed the finish line.”
The initiative is the most recent fundraising activity for Julia Durbin, who have also enjoyed dress up days, sponsored step challenges, virtual balloon races and more in their efforts to raise money for CRUK, who in December announced they had been forced to cut research funding by £45 million due to losses from the pandemic.
The nursery adopted Cancer Research UK in 2020 for a year-long fundraising drive, which has now been extended until the end of 2021.
