Growing learning for life at Staines Day Nursery
Vegetables are on the menu at the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Knowle Green Day Nursery in Staines.
The children have been growing home produced vegetables and herbs in their very own patch. The patch is nurtured and maintained by preschool children along with the in-house nursery chefs.
The vegetable and herb patch is part of a range of Eco-Schools initiatives which has led to the nursery winning a Silver Accreditation Award for their commitment to the environment.
Knowle Green Manager Faye Walker said:
“At Knowle Green we believe that teaching children about the natural world should start as young as possible. The vegetable patch is a fantastic resource in which to bring theory to life, demonstrating to children where the food we eat comes from and how to look after plants.”
The produce grown will be served by the nursery as part of their Soil Association accredited menu which features higher welfare meats and sustainable, local produce.
