Greengables Day Nursery children enjoy experiments for British Science Week
Children from Greengables Day Nursery in Owlsmoor were delighted to take part in a series of themed activities to celebrate ‘British Science Week’ at the setting.
From making slime and exploring objects under microscopes to making predictions on whether materials will float or sink, pre-schoolers from the day nursery on Yeovil Road were thrilled to take part in the experiments, which aim to encourage them to think critically, whilst incorporating basic mathematical and scientific messages.
The children regularly take part in ‘STEM’ activities as part of an initiative which looks to integrate ‘Science’, ‘Technology’, ‘Engineering’ and ‘Maths’ into everyday learning in order to introduce the subjects and nurture interest from an early age.
Greengables Day Nursery Deputy Manager, Julia Grant explained;
“The children had a brilliant time taking part in British Science Week and using exciting experiments to solve the answers to their questions. Science is brilliant for helping to develop key life skills such as communication, problem solving and forming opinions based on facts and observations.”
Run by the British Science Association, ‘British Science Week’ looks to celebrate the use of science in our everyday lives and encourage more people to pursue an interest in the field. British Science Week was held on 5th – 14th March 2021.
