Going for Gold at Greengables Day Nursery
After working hard to achieve both ‘Bronze’ and ‘Silver’ accreditations as part of the Woodland Trust ‘Green Tree Schools’ programme, children and practitioners from Greengables Day Nursery in Owlsmoor were delighted to be awarded ‘Gold’ status.
Through the combination of eco-friendly teachings and activities such as tree dressing, creating a circuit board to generate energy and a recycling project, the day nursery on Yeovil Road received the award, which acknowledges settings for their environmental contributions, and is now working towards the prestigious ‘Platinum’.
There are currently more than 12,000 schools taking part in the Woodland Trust initiative, which sees children take part in projects in exchange for points. This also links to the nursery’s work alongside Eco-Schools, for which they have earnt a prestigious ‘Green Flag’ award for exceptional environmental practices at the setting.
Greengables Day Nursery Deputy Manager, Julia Grant explained;
“We have had a brilliant time on our Green Tree Schools journey so far and can’t wait to continue with these projects and work our way towards the Platinum accreditation. This is predominantly a scheme aimed at older, school-aged children, so we are absolutely delighted that our pre-schoolers are so engaged in these activities and understand the importance of caring for the world around us.”
