Fundraising triumph at Cedar Park Day Nursery
After dedicating the month of July to a triathlon fundraiser in honour of one of their beloved colleagues who was recently diagnosed with cancer, the team from Cedar Park Day Nursery in Twyford were delighted to learn of the impact they had made.
At the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery on Bridge Farm Road, every single member of the team, which is made up of over 50 colleagues, pledged to walk, run, cycle or swim as much as possible over the month long period, collating a staggering total figure of 2,488km – the equivalent of doing the London Marathon 59 times over.
As a result of their incredible efforts, the team has so far raised an amazing £896.00 with donations still incoming, which will now be donated to Cancer Research UK in the hopes of helping families, funding vital research and finding a cure.
From best friends Jackie and Theresa collectively totalling 34k for a walk from Henley to Sonning, Aaron covering 64 miles on his bike during the month, Claire clocking up 40.2k by walking to and from the train station on her route to work and six practitioners accumulating 102k between them on a walk along the Thames path, the determination of colleagues to help the worthy cause has shone through.
Cedar Park Day Nursery Manager, Emma Kemp, who amassed the largest number of miles with an astounding total of 364k through efforts such as a bike ride from Bristol to Reading and cycle around the Isle of Wight, explained;
“I am so incredibly proud of the way everyone has pulled together and demonstrated the most amazing sense of team spirit in light of this awful situation. Our wonderful colleague is now in remission and we will continue to support her every step of the way. We are delighted to be donating the money raised to Cancer Research UK, and hope this will bring hope to many others battling this devastating disease.”
