Exploring the great outdoors at Greengables Day Nursery
Children at Greengables Day Nursery in Owlsmoor have been making the most of their brand new outdoor learning space with the introduction of a six-week nature programme.
In the recently revamped garden outside, children from the Day Nursery in Yeovil Road are being tasked with a series of challenges and activities which aim to engage them with the purpose built space and introduce them to basic maths, science and environmental messages.
The activity programme includes exploring art in nature by collecting natural materials from the garden for crafting, discovering shapes and measuring, bug observations and even scavenger hunts.
Greengables Day Nursery Manager, Jen Ralphs said;
“The children love being outdoors and we thought this programme would be the perfect way to incorporate the new garden into their learning. Not only is this scheme helping to progress their knowledge on the environment, but helps to nurture key skills for development too.”
Greengables Day Nursery currently holds an Eco-Schools ‘Silver’ award for environmental conservation and awareness and is working their way towards the top ‘Green Flag’ Award in the internationally recognised schools scheme. The nursery is also powered by green electricity from the sun and wind, and has nearly ‘zero’ waste to landfill.
