Eid al-Fitr celebrations at Julia Durbin

Festivities were well underway at Julia Durbin Day Nursery in Headington as children and colleagues took part in a series of activities to celebrate the festival of Eid al-Fitr.

To provide a deeper understanding of the occasion, which marks the end of Ramadan and the fasting period, pre-schoolers from setting on Headington Road were delighted to showcase their creativity by making themed artwork and star and moon shapes biscuits, as well as delving into related storybooks including ‘The Best Eid Ever’.

As part of the festivities, children were delighted to learn about the significance of the festival and traditional customs, including visiting loved ones, offering presents and donating money to causes to help those less fortunate, as well as looking at the music and food enjoyed.

Julia Durbin Day Nursery Manager, Emma Wallbridge explained;

“Celebrating Eid al-Fitr with the children has been a wonderful opportunity to explore different cultures and traditions in a fun and meaningful way. Through creative activities, storytelling and shared experiences, the children have been able to develop a deeper understanding of the festival and its importance. It’s been lovely to see their enthusiasm as they learned about kindness, generosity and community, which are at the heart of Eid.”

Eid al-Fitr was celebrated on 20th March 2026.
