Diwali celebrations at Oak Tree Day Nursery
Children from Oak Tree Day Nursery in Finchampstead were delighted to join millions of people across the world in celebrating the festival of Diwali.
With the help of their resident expert, Kiruthika Loganathan and nursery families who mark the occasion themselves, pre-schoolers from the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ setting on Nine Mile Ride were able to immerse themselves in the ‘Festival of Lights’, from tasting traditional handmade foods to trying on beautiful saris.
To showcase their creativity, children were able to make and decorate their very own clay Diya tealight holders to take home, before learning of why the festival is important to so many and the customs that usually take place during this time.
Oak Tree Day Nursery Deputy Manager, Becca Rowland explained;
“We love to mark a range of different events throughout the year to give children a wider understanding of the world around them and celebrate the diversity within our local community. It was wonderful to have our colleagues and nursery families impart their knowledge for these celebrations and share such an important part of their culture with us, we had a fantastic time.”
