Cooking up a storm at Windmill Hill Day Nursery
Children from Windmill Hill Day Nursery in Swindon were delighted to showcase their culinary talents as they prepared healthy homemade treats to enjoy at the setting.
At the day nursery on Windmill Business Park, Whitehill Way, pre-schoolers created porridge using coconut milk and a selection of fresh fruits for breakfast, before trying their hand at creating batches of banana pancakes to practice basic kitchen skills.
After carefully mixing the ingredients, the children discussed why the pancake batter needed to be heated in order to eat, and the scientific process behind this, before using their new electric oven and hob with the help of practitioners.
Windmill Hill Day Nursery Deputy Manager, Kayleigh Blaylock explained;
“The children are showing a great deal of enthusiasm towards their cooking activities and this allows for many opportunities to be creative and build confidence, as well as encouraging the use of new language, developing fine motor skills and practicing basic maths concepts through weighing and measuring.”
