Cooking up a storm at Julia Durbin Day Nursery
Budding young bakers from Julia Durbin Day Nursery in Headington have been working hard to create delicious desserts using their own homegrown ingredients.
At the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery on Roosevelt Drive, children ventured into the garden outside and picked apples from the trees, before preparing the fruit and using puff pastry to create healthy apple pies with the help of practitioners.
After baking the pies in the oven and discussing the changes that were taking place, children from the setting were delighted to enjoy the pies for their afternoon snack.
Julia Durbin Day Nursery Third in Charge, Jen Curley explained;
“The children had a brilliant time creating their own desserts and this was a wonderful activity for developing basic culinary skills, as well as learning more about where our food comes from. We now can’t wait to try our hand at more recipes in the future.”
