Chinese New Year celebrations for Julia Durbin Day Nursery
Children and staff at Julia Durbin Day Nursery in Headington are marking Chinese New Year with a series of themed activities to welcome the ‘Year of the Pig’.
At the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery in Roosevelt Drive, staff dressed up as different animals to represent those of the Chinese zodiac, whilst children showcased their creativity by making their own ‘Great Wall of China’ after researching the famous landmark.
At lunchtime, children learnt how to hold chopsticks before enjoying a spread of traditional Chinese dishes, including sweet and sour chicken and vegetable noodles, all prepared by the nursery chefs.
Julia Durbin Day Nursery Manager, Emma Wallbridge explained;
“The children have had a wonderful time celebrating Chinese New Year and learning about the customs and culture of the country. We believe it’s important to celebrate these special occasions in order to give them a wider understanding of the world.”
