Celebrating British Science Week at Nene Valley Day Nursery
Magnets, measuring and magnifying are just some of the topics being covered at Nene Valley Day Nursery in Cliftonville as children and staff take part in ‘British Science Week’.
Children from the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery in Northampton General Hospital Complex regularly take part in ‘STEM’ activities, incorporating ‘Science’, ‘Technology’, ‘Engineering’ and ‘Maths’ into learning, but this week are dedicating five whole days to the subjects by way of celebration.
The activities, which include exploring shadows and reflections and releasing a high altitude weather balloon, are designed to incorporate basic maths and science messages and encourage children to think critically.
Nene Valley Day Nursery Deputy Manager, Jade Shillington explained;
“Science helps children to develop key life skills including forming opinions based on observations and problem solving. As well as being fun, we hope the STEM activities will inspire a passion for the subjects in both the girls and the boys which we can continue to nurture in nursery.”
Run by the British Science Association, ‘British Science Week’ looks to celebrate the importance of science in our everyday lives and encourage more people to pursue an interest in the field.
