Celebrating Afternoon Tea Week at Windmill Hill Day Nursery

Sandwiches, cakes, biscuits, and homemade scones with jam were just some of the treats that children from Windmill Hill Day Nursery in Swindon enjoyed as they marked ‘National Afternoon Tea Week’ with their friends and practitioners.

After making their own hats and dressing in party clothes for the occasion, delighted children from the day nursery on Windmill Hill Business Park, Whitehill Way, independently selected their food from stands and served it on special china bowls and plates, following their research on the origins of traditional afternoon tea.

Windmill Hill Day Nursery Deputy Manager, Kayleigh Blaylock explained;

“The children loved finding out about the history of afternoon tea and were thrilled to follow this with a real world learning experience. As well as being a fun and social activity, it also offered many chances for independence, as well as the development of fine motor skills through movements such as pouring their own drinks.”
