Autumn festivities were in full swing at Cedar Park Day Nursery in Twyford as children helped create a very special scarecrow for their local village’s annual trail.
Embracing this year’s wildlife theme, pre-schoolers from the setting on Bridge Farm Road were delighted to get hands-on with their hedgehog creation, helping to stuff it full of straw while learning all about the creatures and the role they play in our natural environment.
The activity offered an opportunity for the children to explore the changing season, develop their understanding of local wildlife and get creative as they worked together on a project for their community. From learning about hedgehogs and their habitats to discovering how they prepare for the colder months, the experience brought autumn learning to life.
Their finished hedgehog was proudly displayed as part of 50 designs created by members of the local community for the Twyford Scarecrow Trail. The event also helped raise money for the PTAs of Polehampton Infant & Junior Schools and The Colleton Primary School, both of which many of Cedar Park’s children may go on to attend in the future.
Cedar Park Day Nursery Manager, Rachael Main said;
“It’s lovely to see the children’s enthusiasm for getting involved in something that brings the community together. As well as having lots of fun, they’re developing their motor skills, creativity and an understanding of how they can play a part in the world around them.”
