Cedar Park Day Nursery children enjoy zoom session with author
Complete with a zoom meeting from a real life author, children from Cedar Park Day Nursery in Twyford were delighted to dress up as their favourite characters and take part in a range of special activities to mark World Book Day at the setting.
The Cat in the Hat, Little Miss Chatterbox and The Gruffalo were just some of the beloved literary characters impersonated by pre-schoolers from the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery on Bridge Farm Road to commemorate the annual event, which looks to celebrate books and encourage a lasting love of reading.
Practitioners also embraced the festivities by dressing up as figures from ‘The Colour Monster’ story, before discussing the theme of emotions from the book to help children articulate their feelings. The group were also thrilled to have a video call with author of ‘Ben the Outside Dog’, Jenna Rothwell, where they learnt more about her work, as well as the role of an illustrator and publisher.
Cedar Park Day Nursery Manager, Emma Kemp explained;
“Each year we look forward to seeing the children’s incredible costumes, and this year has been no different. We have had a brilliant time exploring some of our favourite books and gaining an insight into the writing process from Jenna, which everybody loved. Storytelling is not only essential for capturing the imagination, but building literary confidence and communication skills too.”
World Book day was created by UNESCO on 23rd April 1995.
