‘Brave the shave’ raises over £1,000 for charity at Edwinstowe Day Nursery
There were smiles all round at Edwinstowe Close Day Nursery in Cambridge as the proud team celebrated the selfless fundraising efforts of their colleague, Lucy Douglas as she ‘braved the shave’ to raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK.
Following five years as Charity Representative at the day nursery on Chaucer Road, Nursery Practitioner, Lucy was inspired to think of new ways to help raise money for worthy causes during the pandemic, which led to her facing the clippers in front of her adoring colleagues and raising £1,360.00, with donations still incoming.
In addition to the funds raised for Cancer Research UK, Lucy has also donated her hair to an individual in West Wickham, where it will now be used to create wigs for those who have lost their own hair to cancer and other illnesses.
Speaking of the incredible achievement, Lucy Douglas explained;
“I really enjoy supporting the team in raising money for our chosen charities and wanted to take part in brave the shave as I thought it would be a fun way of supporting this worthy cause. I’m overwhelmed by the amount of money that’s been raised and the lovely messages I’ve received. I feel so proud to have been able to do this and help others that are suffering, and having had people close to me that have had cancer themselves makes this all the more special.”
Edwinstowe Close Day Nursery adopted Cancer Research UK in 2020 for a year-long fundraising drive, which has now been extended until the end of 2021 due to Covid-19. As a result of the pandemic, the charity are currently facing predicted losses of 20-25% in fundraising income.
