There was cause for celebration at Pennypot Day Nursery in Chobham as proud pre-schoolers completed a marathon challenge to help raise vital funds for The Trussell Trust.
At the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery on Pennypot Lane, children collectively ran the distance of a marathon over the course of a week, using the racetrack in the garden outside to reach the equivalent of 26.2 miles, with 1,687 laps completed in total. As a result of their efforts, pre-schoolers were delighted to learn they had raised £1330.00 for the food bank network, with donations still incoming from generous parents and supporters.
Kindness was demonstrated in many ways during the fundraiser, from a nursery parent designing bespoke t-shirts for the event which were sold to benefit the cause, to pre-schoolers showing their appreciation for supporters, with one child collecting rubbish from their neighbourhood with their litter picker in return for sponsorship from caring neighbours.
Pennypot Day Nursery Charity Representative, Aprille Goubert explained;
“Our pre-schoolers had a fantastic time taking part in the marathon challenge and didn’t want to stop running, they were also very proud to learn that they were helping people in the process. All children were given the opportunity to take part, and this was a brilliant way to promote healthy lifestyles and the benefits of exercise and outdoor play. We are delighted to be supporting The Trussell Trust and are so grateful to our nursery families for their support.”
Pennypot Day Nursery have pledged a year-long fundraising drive for The Trussell Trust, with regular collections for the Woking Foodbank to help local people who need it most.
