Marathon achievement at Emscote House for poorly children

Milly Marathon

A devoted Early Years practitioner from Emscote House Day Nursery in Leamington Spa was given a hero’s welcome as she returned to the setting after completing the TCS London Marathon, all in aid of a cause close to their hearts.

Running to raise money for Birmingham’s Children Hospital following the leukaemia diagnosis of one of their own children at the day nursery on Warwick Place, Nursery Practitioner; Milly Smith was delighted to finish the gruelling 26.2 mile course through the capital, raising a grand total of £2,666.00 for the incredibly worthy cause.

Greeted by the children’s homemade congratulations banners as she walked through the door to the nursery, Milly spoke to the captivated group about the special event and gave them the opportunity to try on her medal, before being celebrated by the proud staff team.

Emscote House Nursery Practitioner, Milly Smith explained;

“Running the London Marathon was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done – my furthest distance to date, and although it took me a while, I made it to the end without stopping once. It was one of the most amazing days, with the most incredible atmosphere, crowds and the wonderful support of my family who cheered me on the whole way.”

“Most importantly it was remarkable to see all of the worthwhile charities that the runners were supporting, with so many touching personal stories. I managed to raise £2,666.00 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital, all in the name of Holly! What’s even more exciting is those of us that run for the cause have raised a current total of £119,629.00, and there’s a few more thousand to come in matched funds. The previous record was £106,000.00 – we’ve absolutely smashed it and I’m so proud to be a part of that.”

Emscote House Quality Manager, Sukhvinder Virdee explained;

“Milly is an inspiration to us all and we couldn’t be prouder of her for embarking on this challenge for one of our incredibly brave children. This is a testament to the care and dedication shown by all of our colleagues at Emscote House and the family feel at our nursery. This money will do so much good for families during the worst chapter in their lives and we are in awe of what Milly has accomplished.”
