Festivities were well underway at Nursery on the Green Day Nursery in Southall as pre-schoolers welcomed the ‘Year of the Dragon’ with a series of exciting activities.
After co-researching traditional customs of the Lunar New Year festival using books and photographs, children from the award-winning setting on Thorncliffe Road were delighted to make their very own dragons using an array of recycled materials, which they paraded during a special dragon dance to traditional music, typically carried out to bring good luck.
Dressed in colours of red and green to represent health and prosperity, pre-schoolers enjoyed making noodles and practicing their fine motor skills and hand-eye co-ordination with chopstick play, before showcasing their creativity with lantern making sessions.
Nursery on the Green Deputy Manager, Meera Ladva explained;
“The Lunar New Year celebrations were an excellent opportunity for our pre-schoolers to gain a deeper respect for the cultural diversity all around us. It is through these inspiring activities that we strive to foster an understanding and appreciation for different traditions and customs among our young learners and create lasting memories for all.”
Lunar New Year fell on Saturday 10th February 2024.
We prioritise the importance of outdoor play at Cedars Day Nursery in Leighton Buzzard. All children at our Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ nursery have access to our large, natural garden area on a daily basis as we recognise the impact that being outdoors has on a child’s social, emotional and physical development. The children enjoy planting vegetables and tasting their produce, served by our dedicated Nursery Chef.
