Lime Grove Day Nursery children welcome local heroes

Following a visit from the Hertfordshire Police Constabulary, children from Lime Grove Day Nursery in Hemel Hempstead were thrilled to delve deeper into their learning around the emergency services with a special visit from Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue heroes.

Arriving to the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery on Park Road in their fire engine, pre-schoolers were in awe as they were given a guided tour of the vehicle, as well as the important equipment used to extinguish fires and the protective clothing worn to stay safe.

As part of the exciting learning experience, children were given the chance to ask the firefighters any questions to gain a deeper insight into the important work they do within the community, before being given a live safety demonstration using the fire hose.

Lime Grove Day Nursery Team Leader, Michelle Tierney explained;

“We have had a fantastic time learning about people who help us and these emergency service visits have provided so many rich opportunities for our pre-schoolers. We are hugely grateful to the firefighters for taking time out of their busy schedules to share their knowledge and expertise, all whilst giving children a better understanding of different occupations.”
