There were learning experiences at every turn for pre-schoolers at Knowle Green Day Nursery in Staines as they marked Remembrance Day with a series of themed activities.
To commemorate the occasion and honour those who lost their lives in conflict, children from the award-winning setting on Knowle Green carried out co-research into the significance of the day and the symbolism of the poppy, as well as holding their own two-minute silence.
Having been inspired by the information they had learnt, pre-schoolers showcased their creativity by making a special poppy wreath using their handprints, before walking to the local war memorial to lay it down with the other tributes and observe a small service taking place, where they were delighted to meet Mayor of Spelthorne, Cllr Denise Saliagopoulos.
Knowle Green Day Nursery Manager, Chanelle Weaver explained;
“The children showed such maturity and respect during the Remembrance Day service and we couldn’t be prouder of them for the empathy they continue to show towards others. We mark a wide range of occasions throughout the year to provide our little ones with a wider understanding of the world and this event also helped promote early historical knowledge.”
