Following the record temperatures throughout the summer, children from Maples Day Nursery in Winchester have been finding creative new ways to keep cool in the heat.
At the award-winning setting on Hatherley Road, pre-schoolers were delighted to design their very own spa experience under the gazebo outside, making relaxing foot baths using water, fruit and a range of natural materials from the garden, including flowers and leaves.
As part of the learning opportunity, children were also able to make their very own healthy fruit lollies, each day experimenting with different ingredients, as well as learning about the importance of staying safe in the sun by using sun cream and wearing appropriate clothing.
Maples Day Nursery Team Leader, Danni Markwick explained;
“The children have really embraced the warm weather and this has presented some brilliant chances for them to demonstrate their knowledge on sun safety, all whilst introducing new and exciting activities. Everyone found the foot spa experience very relaxing and this inspired lots of lovely conversations about the nature around us.”
We prioritise the importance of outdoor play at Cedars Day Nursery in Leighton Buzzard. All children at our Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ nursery have access to our large, natural garden area on a daily basis as we recognise the impact that being outdoors has on a child’s social, emotional and physical development. The children enjoy planting vegetables and tasting their produce, served by our dedicated Nursery Chef.
